On 17 and 18 December, 2019, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and the Government of Switzerland jointly hosted in Geneva a world meeting on refugees, the first-ever Global Refugee Forum (GRF). The two-day global conference was the first gathering at the Ministerial level to follow up on the practical implementation of the Global Compact on Refugees, affirmed at the UN in New York in December 2018.
The contributions that were made at the Forum took numerous forms including, for example, financial, material, and technical assistance; resettlement places and complementary safe and legal pathways for admission of refugees; and other actions, such as legal and policy changes to enable greater refugee inclusion in national systems through a whole of society approach.
The Forum brought together leaders and influential figures from all of these areas.
The Global Refugee Forum was also an occasion for the international community to showcase and exchange good practices at national, regional or global levels.
So here we were, a small social enterprise employing refugee mothers in Turkey welcomed at this huge event.
Last November bebemoss became part of the UNHCR initiative called MADE51 which aims to bring refugee crafted products to the global market. Along with 18 other Social Entreprises from all over the world, we had a small stand where we sold our toys, told our story and had the chance to meet with the outstanding attendance at this conference. For me personally just stepping into Le Palais des Nations was a big achievement and made me very emotional. So many world-shaping agreements were signed here, so many outstanding leaders walked those corridors and attended meetings here...
